The ICE director has threatened to flood Boston if Mayor Wu fails to comply with federal regulations.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has criticized President Trump’s administration over the city’s sanctuary policies, leading to a flood of immigration agents by the federal law enforcement agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons stated that Boston and Massachusetts will remain a sanctuary, despite the increased presence of criminal aliens in the neighborhood. Wu emphasized that Boston will not succumb to unconstitutional threats or unlawful coercion from the federal government. Attorney General Pam Bondi sent letters to 32 state and local governments, including Boston, warning them that they could face federal funding dismissal or legal action if they do not cooperate with the administration’s immigration crackdown. Lyons emphasized that Boston will continue to make America safe, stating that the city enacted the Boston Trust Act in 2014, which bars local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement agents, particularly in arresting migrants on civil warrants. The Boston Trust Act was enacted in 2014 to protect the city’s citizens from potential threats.
