Frontier Airlines is expanding its services by adding 20 new flights in the winter, many of which are ties to major Spirit Airlines markets. This development comes after Frontier has tried and failed to merge with Spirit for the past three years. Frontier Airlines CEO Barry Biffle emphasized the importance of product upgrades, a rewarding loyalty program, and investments in technology and service as part of The New Frontier. New routes from Fort Lauderdale will depart for Detroit, Houston, Chicago, and Charlotte, N.C., as well as flights out of Houston to New Orleans, San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and Guatemala City. Spirit Airlines, the parent company of Frontier Airlines, is struggling to stay afloat due to weak demand for leisure travel and other challenges, leading to a near $246 million loss in the second quarter of its fiscal year.
