Extreme heat is causing widespread danger across the U.S., with temperatures reaching into the 90s and 100s from the Southeast to the Midwest. St. Louis, Missouri, is under an extreme heat warning, with temperatures reaching up to 114 degrees. South Carolina and North Carolina are also experiencing extreme heat, with warnings for temperatures reaching between 113 and 115 degrees. Heat advisories are in effect for multiple areas, including Florida, Virginia, Texas, West Virginia, and parts of the Upper Midwest. The Northeast will be cooler and drier due to a cold front. A widespread, life-threatening heat wave is set to take place in the Midwest and Southeast, with extreme heat watches issued for Omaha, Sioux Falls, Des Moines, Minneapolis, and Duluth. An “Extreme Heat Risk” level 4 of 4 is in place from Sunday through Thursday for large portions of the Southeast. Fire concerns are also in place in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, with gusty and dry conditions expected on Saturday.
