Vice President Vance has stated that the recent raid on former national security adviser John Bolton’s residence is not retribution for his political commentary criticizing the Trump administration. He stated that the investigation into Bolton is in its early stages and that law enforcement agencies will be driven by law, not politics. Bolton has been a vocal critic of President Trump’s foreign policy dealings, particularly in relation to his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Some speculate that the raid was motivated by his frequent rebukes to the current administration’s diplomatic efforts. However, Vance rejected these allegations and said the probe was tied to an investigation linked to classified documents potentially being stored at Bolton’s home. Both Trump and former President Biden, in addition to corresponding administration officials, have been accused of mishandling high-level paperwork in the past.
Vance emphasized that the investigation will be careful about potential criminal prosecution from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and that they should let the law drive these determinations. The president, however, stated that he was unaware of the sting at Bolton’s home and would remain uninvolved in the current investigation. He referred to Bolton as “unpatriotic” and told Attorney General Pam Bondi that he did not want to know about the search.
